The wettest place on Earth is a village in northeast India.

Mawsynram sits on the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, where moist air sweeping in from the Bay of Bengal is forced sharply upward and releases enormous amounts of rain. Its average annual rainfall is around 11,800 millimetres, more than ten times the global average over land.

The nearby town of Cherrapunji, also in Meghalaya, holds the records for the most rain in a single year and in a single month, both set in 1861.
