India produces more milk than any other country.

India has been the world’s largest milk producer since the late 1990s, following decades of a cooperative-led expansion known as Operation Flood. Annual output now exceeds 200 million tonnes, close to a quarter of the global total, and outweighs the combined production of the European Union.

The next-largest producers are the United States, followed by countries including China, Pakistan and Brazil. Much of India’s milk comes from small farmers keeping only a few animals each.
