The world's highest cricket ground sits at 2,444 metres in the Himalayas.

· Geography

After being barred from the British summer capital of Shimla, the Maharaja of Patiala built his own hill retreat at nearby Chail and, in 1893, had the top of a ridge flattened to create a cricket and polo ground at an altitude of about 2,444 metres.

The ground is now part of the campus of the Chail Military School and remains the highest cricket pitch in the world.
